Kristin Ahlness began her career as a real estate professional in Ithaca in 1977, and since then she has spent more than 25 years working in the field full time in Ithaca and Maine. She also has years of experience in property management, rentals, and marketing. She holds the GRI designation, is a Seniors Residential Specialist, and a member of RealtyUSA’s President’s Council, which represents the company’s top 10 percent of Realtors. In 2008 she joined the Platinum Club- RealtyUSA’s highest level of Sales performance. In recent years, Kristin has closed on a listing or sale every 12 days!
Kristin has experience in many aspects of real estate. In Maine, she specialized in lakefront property, mostly second homes. Having owned a 100-acre organic dairy farm near Ithaca and operated a wholesale whole-grain bakery, Kristin possesses a unique understanding of business, as well as the variety of property in and around Ithaca. She has also owned rental property in downtown Ithaca and enjoys selling and marketing property in the city and its various neighborhoods, as well. In 2008 Kristin achieved “100% Success”, closing all 16 properties listed with her before 12/1/08. She also teaches first time homebuyer classes for Tompkins County Better Housing.
Kristin currently lives in a Greek Revival farmhouse on seven acres with two ponds, just five miles from Ithaca, and shares her life with her husband, Greg Thomas, their two cats and agility- trained Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. Their two children graduated Ithaca schools- one the Lehman Alternative School and the other Ithaca High School. Both are currently attending college.
Since husband Greg is President and CEO of Performance Systems Development and Performance Systems Contracting, Kristin is also quite knowledgeable in the fields of energy efficiency, green building, solar and geothermal systems, and building performance.
Kristin thoroughly enjoys life in Ithaca and wants to assure people that it IS as good as it appears! The vibrant small city, its talented musicians, artists, and performers all add to the quality of life. Cornell and Ithaca College bring much of the intellectual stimulation and cultural diversity we enjoy here. And the hiking, waterfalls, farmers market, and wonderful community are tough to duplicate!
In addition to devoting her life to her clients, Kristin also is an organic gardener and landscaper, who loves music and t’ai chi, cooking, hiking, swimming, skiing, dancing, and spending time with pets, friends, and family. As her oldest brother is deaf, she is also adept in American Sign Language.
With all her experience and energy, Kristin would be glad to help you through your next transition.
